Using a Cronus Zen and certain other devices in Fortnite can now get you banned.

As with any game, Fortnite has always had its fair share of cheaters. From aimbot to people flying and spawning in items, we’ve seen it all over the years.

Back in July, Epic Games added a new anti-cheat system to Fortnite in an effort to combat rising levels of foul play. The software acts in tandem with the existing EasyAntiCheat and Battle Eye programs.

However, while everyone knows cheating is wrong, there have always been a couple of loopholes used by players to gain a competitive advantage without breaking any rules.

Certain hardware devices, including the Cronus Zen and Cronus Max, were never officially ruled out by Epic – until now.

Cronus Zen and Other Devices Bannable in Fortnite

Following the Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4 launch, Epic announced a new ruling on restricted hardware.

Starting now, players will receive an in-game warning when a restricted device is detected. They will then need to unplug the device and restart Fortnite to continue playing.

If you attempt to bypass this restriction in any way, you will be permanently banned from Fortnite.

Which Devices Are Restricted in Fortnite?

Currently, Epic has only explicitly mentioned the Cronus Zen and Cronus Max hardware devices.

However, they stated that “The use of hardware that provides, or is intended to provide, a competitive advantage is not allowed” and added that this is not limited to Cronus devices.

This means that if people start using an alternative instead, Epic will easily be able to add that to the list of banned devices.

They did also mention that accessibility devices, such as the Xbox Accessibility Controller and the 3dRudder are still totally fine.

What Is a Cronus Zen?

The Cronus Zen is a device that connects to controllers or PCs and uses advanced scripting technology to alter how they respond to gameplay.

In Fortnite, people use this for Soft-Aim, a weaker, less noticeable version of aimbot. It can additionally reduce recoil and some custom mods allow even more advantages.

Many top pros have claimed that their opponents are using the Cronus Zen and getting away with it, so it will be interesting to see if this new stance from Epic affects the tournament leaderboards.
