It’s looking very likely that Fortnite will be adding helicopters as a new vehicle at some point during Season 2. Ninja and SypherPK discussed their thoughts on stream whilst testing out the v12.10 patch.

The theory that helicopters may be coming to Fortnite first came out when people noticed that one of the Season 2 teasers had a helipad hidden in the background. Some fans instantly hopped on the idea that they would become the first vehicle to join boats in Chapter 2, but others less convinced.

When the new season went live and helicopters were nowhere to be seen, the sceptics assumed they had been correct. It seemed like the choppers were just included in the trailer to fit the secret agent aesthetic.

However, that all changed after the v12.10 patch recently dropped. Following the update, Fortnite leakers found that the helicopter has been added to the game files. It appears that they will soon be added, and will indeed be a vehicle that players can freely use just like planes back in Season 7.

On top of this news, large helipads have started appearing around the battle royale island. This means we could be flying around the map as soon as next week! Some stats on the helicopters indicate that they will be able to deal both rotor and explosive damage, to both players and buildings.

Tyler “Ninja” Blevins had an interesting thought after seeing one of these new helipads in-game, he said “Imagine the only way you can land is if you land on one of those”. Ali “SypherPK” Hassan on the other hand seemingly learned his lesson from the planes, replying “Na you’re gonna be able to crash into whoever you wanna crash into, there’s no doubt”.

Despite this thought, Sypher wasn’t put off, he added “Dude I’m all for the helicopters… I’m ready for the chaos”. Whilst this is probably the best outlook to have, I get the feeling that not everyone will be so excited by the prospect.

Regardless of your thoughts on helicopters coming to Fortnite, we can all agree it will be quite a dramatic change. The contrast between last season’s harsh lack of mobility, and suddenly being able to hop in a chopper for a speedy rotate will take some getting used to. It will certainly be interesting to see how they are implemented, and if they can function a bit more like a vehicle and less like a weapon.
