The new map was a refreshing twist to the Fortnite saga - but also a lot to take in at once. These community lead visuals break down everything you need to know about the new items and in game mechanics
Water interaction is one of the main mechanics introduced in Chapter 2. Before this week, jumping in the water would be a one way trip to the lobby. But now you can swim, boat, and even fish in the rivers which stream around the entire map.
If you decide to use the waters for a quicker rotation, be wary you might be fighting against the current. In fact, swimming upstream is much slower than running directly alongside the river. Since the water flows in the same direction every game, follow this nifty diagram created by Efelo75 on Reddit to never get stuck in a sticky situation.
Generally, the water flows towards the edge of the map - away from the center. Only one river (Southeast) actually flows towards the center. What’s so special about the southeastern river, Epic??
Another new mechanic, crafting, allows you to upgrade a weapon’s rarity if you have enough materials. They are found at every POI and some other popular yet unnamed spots. Luckily, Valroz made it easy for us by putting a big red circle on top of every crafting bench location on the new map.
Finally, the king of competitive, ImSpeedyGonzale released an analytical diagram noting different strategies to be aware of. The legend (posted on the corners of the image) lists multiple points ranging from contestedness to fish and slurp keg hotspots. If you haven’t figured out a permanent landing spot yet, this should give you a better frame of reference.
Epic Games went all out to change a great deal for Chapter 2 - special thanks to all the contributors who made it that much easier to digest.
