If you follow some of the high-profile Fortnite pros on Twitter, you might be wondering why #FreeMitr0 is trending. Take a look at why the community is standing behind one of the top players in the game.

Dmitri "Mitr0" Van de Vrie is one of the top Fortnite pros in the game and is on one of the best Fortnite trios in the world.

He, Mongraal, and BenjyFishy have dominated the EU region in the Fortnite Champion Series. They've won three out of the five Finals competitions and placed second in the other two, making them frontrunners going into the Grand Finals this weekend.

On September 16, the Fortnite professional community jumped to Mitr0's defense on Twitter, making #FreeMitr0 one of the trending topics in the US.

Why was this trending, you may ask? Well, it's another eSports contract dispute.

The Contract Problem

The predatory nature of eSports contracts came into light when Tfue famously sued FaZe Clan to get out of his one-sided contract.

Tfue isn't the first player to be unhappy with a contract, and he won't be the last.

These organizations are largely signing kids, after all, (Mitr0 is 16) and the secretive nature of eSports contracts - full of NDAs - often make pro players feel as though they're getting ripped off.

Several high-profile content creators and pro players have spoken out about eSports contracts. Ninja, for instance, has urged young players to limit their contract length to six months or a year. That way, if they outgrow their contract there will be room for negotiation.

It appears as though Mitr0 is the latest Fortnite pro to grow unhappy with his contract. He's one of the top earners in the game right now, and his organization, Atlantis, is probably taking a sizable chunk of his winnings.

It's no coincidence that this is all happening right before the FCS Grand Finals, either. Mitr0 and his team are the favorites to win the whole thing, so he wants to get out of his commitment before his earnings reach seven figures.
