The v8.20 content update came with a new weapon: The Boom Bow. Take a look at the specifications of the Bow along with the bug fixes in the latest Fortnite update.

Let's start with the important stuff: no, the rules were not reverted or even tweaked with this content update. It looks like we'll still have to be farming for half of our playtime for at least one more week.

This was a small content update and only came with one new item and a few bug fixes. There aren't any sweeping changes or balance updates here. So, let's get into it.

Boom Bow

The Boom Bow is the new weapon added with the v8.20 content update.

  • Fires Arrows with a Shotgun Shell tip, which explode on impact.
  • Uses Shotgun Ammo
  • The longer you hold the fire keybind down, the faster the shot will go!
    • Explosive damage is consistent regardless of the power of the shot.
    • The Boom Bow will achieve maximum power after 1.6 seconds of charging.
  • A direct hit will deal both the direct hit damage and the explosion damage to the enemy player it impacts.
  • Direct hit
    • Base damage 15
    • Headshot Multiplier: 2x
  • Explosion
    • 100 damage

It's hard to tell how this weapon will perform without testing it, but the text makes it seem a bit overpowered coming out of the gate. No one really wants more explosive weapons in Fortnite, and this one seems like it's going to be a problem.

The fact that the gun takes shotgun ammo is the part that really troubles me. You can find well over 100 shotgun rounds while running around and looting, which means players are going to be able to spam Boom Bow shots at you as you try to build.

The weapon is cool in theory, but I can't imagine it's going to be a fan favorite. There's a reason Epic limited the number of rockets we could carry.

Bug Fixes

Two of the primary bugs in the last patch were considered nerfs and buffs by a lot of players. It's good to know that these changes weren't intended.

The first bug fix resolved the inability to place traps on walls when there was a ramp in the middle of the structure. Some people thought this was an intended change, but it was a bug and it's been fixed.

The second relates to the Baller and Boogie Bombs. Boogie Bombs didn't remove a player from a Baller in the last patch, but this was only a bug.

Arena

  • Fixed an issue that caused players to be unable to queue for Duos when the party leader was in a lower division.
  • Fixed an issue which caused players to not be promoted to the next division while playing in Duos with a player in a higher division.
    • Note: Hype was still being earned correctly, this was a visual issue only.
  • Fixed an issue where players in Duos were charged Bus Fare based on the party leader's division, rather than their own.

Other Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where spectator numbers would not update, even after the spectator had left the game.
  • Fixed an issue which caused the Poison Dart Trap to be hidden behind certain wall assets.
  • Fixed an issue preventing friend invites from displaying in the social panel.

Sniper Shootout will also return as the latest LTM.
