The Secret Skirmish kicked off today with a $50,000 random duos competition. Here's a recap of what went down.

The Secret Skirmish Duo Event was our first look at how the new changes to Fortnite will affect the competitive play. The Infantry Rifle is a clear favorite, and the X4 Stormwings are still quite powerful.

The big tweak for this competition was the random duos that were announced shortly before the competition started. Instead of seeing widely-known teammates like Cloak and Tfue together, the competitors battled it out with randomly selected partners.

The scoring format worked like this:

Eliminations

  • 4-5 kills: 1 point
  • 6-7 kills: 2 points
  • 8 kills: 3 points
  • +1 point for every kill after 8

Placements

  • Victory: 3 points
  • 2nd-3rd: 2 points
  • 4th-5th: 1 point

Tfue and DMO took a commanding lead after the first game and secured nine points. They put it in cruise control after that and secured only one more point from matches 2-5. They were briefly overtaken by Bizzle and TriggySoars after game two but came back to secure first place going into the sixth and final game.

The scoring system was such that it was anyone's match coming into the final round. Saf and Ronaldo had been quietly rising in the ranks over the course of the evening, but then Saf put on a solo show to close out the night and take home the epic Victory Royale.

The whole event was fun to watch. It was a much better LAN event than the last one Fortnite hosted and was a lot easier to follow without the dedicated spectator mode.

Some top names finished in the money when it was all said and done. Vivid, Poach, NickMercs, Tfue and more all made it into the top ten. Here's how the final standings ended up.

Although a $50,000 prize pool is nothing to sneeze at, it's small potatoes compared to what we'll be seeing in the solo event which kicks off tomorrow. Players will be battling for their share of a $400,000 prize pool. The solo event starts tomorrow evening at 5:00 EST.
