Epic has added a new item - the Boom Box - to Battle Royale. Is this going to be another fan favorite or a total mess?
Fortnite just released their content update to v7.01. The patch didn't do much to the Battle Royale side of things, but it did add a new item: the Boom Box.
Here's what Epic has to say regarding the addition: "Drop the bass with the newest item available in Battle Royale, the Boom Box! Crank the volume and toss it at enemy structures to tear down their defenses."
That's not too much information on the new item in the patch notes, but a few streamers and other users hopped into Creative Mode to test it out.
As you can see, the Boombox destroys builds at a rapid clip. The range is massive, and the item has 600 HP. That means you have to stand there - uncovered - and shoot the boombox until it's down.
One of the biggest criticisms fans have about Fortnite is its tendency to lower the skill gap. Shooting is relatively easy in this game, but building separates the strong players from the weak players. Items like this completely reduce the skill gap and make it impossible for good players to protect themselves.
We'll see how this item shakes out, but I can't believe Epic is going to keep it in the game as it stands. It's just too powerful.
Apart from the Boombox, there doesn't seem to be any other changes to the Battle Royale version of the game. There are some additions to Save the World, as well as the added ability to create castles in Creative Mode.
