We are back today with our Fortnite Spotlight! Today we focus on Sp3cialForce21 who hails from the United Kingdom. Sp3cialForce21 is a PS4 Player and has some interesting things to say about the current future of Fortnite.

*JBeck: * Introduce yourself.

*Sp3cialForce21: * Hi my name is Ed. I’m 26 years old and from the UK. My PSN name is Sp3cialForce21

*JBeck: * When did you start playing video games?

*Sp3cialForce21: * I started playing video games from a young age. I played Sega, PS1 and PS2 Casually.

*JBeck: * What was the first game you began to take seriously?

*Sp3cialForce21: * I started to take gaming more seriously when the PS3 first came out with the hit game ‘Resistance: Fall of Man’ where I became Ranked World #1 for both Headshots and Sniping. I was also apart of the best clan on the game called [oNO] ‘Natural Disaster’ which was feared by mostly everyone on the game. It was a very skillful game where headshots really mattered and is still my most favorite FPS multiplayer I have ever played. I would absolutely love for this game to be remastered for PS4.

*JBeck: * When you made the switch to Fortnite what stood out to you?

*Sp3cialForce21: * Fortnite was my first battle royale type of game and so I just messed about with some friends in squads and duo’s at the start. The huge map and being able to build, really stood out for me as it was different to anything I had played before. I also liked the fact that headshots were rewarding and this reminded me a little of playing R:FoM back in the day.

*JBeck: * Which game mode do you enjoy? Why?

*Sp3cialForce21: * I really enjoy the Solo game mode. The reason for this is firstly because this was the game mode where I really started to improve on my own gameplay. I also like the idea of only having one life and if you mess up you are back to the menu to try again, there is no second chances. Furthermore, I find that the enemies I usually play against in solo’s are usually more skilled than if I played in squads for example, which allows me to get into some really great build fights.

*JBeck: * As someone who plays on console, tell us what the competition is like there. How do you handle and adjust for aiming, building, etc. ?

*Sp3cialForce21: * So I play on PS4 and I use a Scuff Controller. My only problem with builder pro was the left button to switch between traps and materials. So I made the left paddle, the left button which allows me to be moving whilst switching traps. I’d say that my two best things are my building and my AR shots are always on point. I feel that there is always good competition on any platform that you play on and I really don’t understand why some PC players will always look down on console players when we can build just as fast with builder pro. I understand the building editing needs some work, but on PS4 we still play against some mouse and keyboard users on a daily basis and I never have a problem. If I die it’s usually because I’ve made a mistake.

*JBeck: * Do you think you would ever make the jump to PC?

*Sp3cialForce21: * I never thought I’d ever say this, but yes I do think one day I will move to PC as with a bit of practice on a keyboard and mouse I would be a far better player than I already am with a controller. Also it would be nice to give myself more of a chance of joining a well known pro team and to better my twitch stream further down the line.

*JBeck: * What are your thoughts on the Fortnite World Tour?

*Sp3cialForce21: * I am very excited about the Fortnite World Tour as I have always been a very competitive player on many other games and would love to win some of the tournaments prize money. All my hours that I have put into Fortnite improving my gameplay, will hopefully not be put to waste.

*JBeck: * With the amount of new games coming out, how do you see Fortnite competing with the various BR Games?

*Sp3cialForce21: * I genuinely believe that Fortnite will remain at the top of all other BR games for at least another two years. The game is so popular as it is free to play and also unique with the building. The fact that they are most probably never going to leave early access, will allow epic to constantly update and patch their game each week, keeping the game fresh. Although I will still play mostly every new BR that comes out on the PS4 and see how they are.

*JBeck: * Walk us through a normal match. Where do you drop, what weapons do you get early on, etc. ?

*Sp3cialForce21: * So as you know I’m a big solo player with over 2000+ Solo Wins. I therefore always want to win as much as possible otherwise I feel like I wasted a round. A usual landing spot for me would be the big factory’s an unnamed location near flush factory also known as ‘Yonder Yard’ if you watch CDNthe3rd haha. I try to get looted up really well with shields, a good AR and usually a Tactical Shotgun since I don’t really like the pump nerf and switch delay so much anymore. My 3rd weapon is usually an explosive weapon or a sniper. Whilst finding all this good loot I am also farming a decent amount of materials and after that it’s go time. I’m now on hunt mode and if I hear anyone firing a shot on the map or building I’m going to rush them down and eliminate them.

*JBeck: * As you are in the top 10 in total wins wins (with your beginning of this year having a huge jump in wins), what do you think attributes to that ?

*Sp3cialForce21: * So I’ve been sitting as World #4 for PS4 solo wins for a while now and the huge jump in wins this year has purely come down to me streaming a lot on twitch and constantly improving on my win percentage. I had always wanted to stream other games before Fortnite such as Battlefield 4 and BFH where I was World #1 for things such as the scout chopper and attack chopper, but my internet was terrible. So finally this year now that my internet is good I really wanted to see if I could make it as a big twitch streamer one day and so I’ve just given it everything I’ve got so far playing a lot everyday. Also making the change to combat pro and then to builder pro alongside a new controller helped me to improve my skill on the game.

*JBeck: * Which high level players do you find yourself watching and studying?

*Sp3cialForce21: * I like to watch streamers such as Ninja, Dakotaz, CDNthe3rd and NICKMERCS to name a few. They are all great to watch as they have a super aggressive play style and are entertaining at the same time. It would be amazing to play some Fortnite with any of the big Fortnite streamers one day.

*JBeck: * The Pro-Am event at E3 seems to have been a success. What did you think about the structure of the event?

*Sp3cialForce21: * It was a fantastic event and I’m very glad that Ninja won it, as it just shows that he can live up to the hype when a tournament comes around. The only suggestion I would say is that they might need more people looking at different players screens, so that that the camera man or whoever can focus more on the good fights and try not to miss out on the action. Also most of the tournaments on Fortnite since the beginning have been between those that have a lot of popularity and so I feel other great players are being overlooked.

*JBeck: * Do you think Private servers, used in the Pro-AM, will lead the way to more innovation in the game?

*Sp3cialForce21: * Yes, I believe every game should have private servers for players to practice and compete in. This is how everyone can keep on improving on their skill.

*JBeck: * Do you see yourself competing in tournaments in the near future? If so/if not then why?

*Sp3cialForce21: * Yes, If there are tournaments on PS4 which I believe is coming. Then I am very much interested and would love to compete for prize money. The only thing I would suggest is even though mouse and keyboard is allowed on PS4. I do believe there is a slight advantage and so should therefore not be allowed in a console tournament.

*JBeck: * What do you need to see to ensure Fortnite has a great competitive growth?

*Sp3cialForce21: * Private servers for anyone to practice and scrim in. Not just for huge streamers/youtubers. No mouse and keyboard on console tournaments. Don’t leave console players out just because PC has a slightly higher skill gap. There is very good competition between players with a controller as we are still competing against each other with the same tools.

*JBeck: * Do you think Sony not having cross play with other consoles/systems has hurt your scene or is it a non-issue

*Sp3cialForce21: * I don’t think it’s a problem at all as I do believe PS4 has the biggest player base on Fortnite so it’s big enough for its own strong competition.

*JBeck: * Do you offer advice to anyone that is currently a console fortnite player trying to improve?

*Sp3cialForce21: * Use Builder Pro. Try to find a sensitivity that you are comfortable with and don’t change it. I play on 8:8 x y. Although never try to copy someone else’s sensitivity as it may not be right for you. Although things to note is that a higher sensitivity is better for faster building and a lower sensitivity may make it easier for you to aim with a shotgun so try to find what’s best for you. When using a shotgun you don’t always need to fully aim with the right stick. You can use movement with the left stick and if your jumping try to fall into your shot. Aiming down sight with a shotgun may give you more consistent damages though so adjust to the situation. Lastly don’t be afraid to use your AR up close. It’s something I do a lot on stream and it seems to work very well for me. The thing about the AR is that the the damage is consistent, unlike the shotguns.
