Epic Games released a bombshell State of Development blog which outlined their future plans for Save The World
Fortnite’s Save The World, also known as “the forgotten child,” was the precursor to a game that many of us know and enjoy. Both Save The World and Battle Royale enjoy the same cartoonish characters and textures, but the story diverges there
While Battle Royale is a fun multiplayer game that can be digested in small bite sized pieces, Save The World is a quest-based lore game that requires substantial time investment to gain access to the best parts
After Battle Royale was released in later 2017 and became an instant hit, Epic was forced to permanently deprioritize Save The World as the numbers were nowhere near as impressive. Fair play to them - but it ultimately left Save The World’s core players feeling like Cinderella (before the dance)
Today, the Save The World community must endure another hit as Epic releases a gloomy forecast for their beloved game
It’s a pretty long read so let me break down the core points for you guys
STW will never turn into a free-to-play game, a stark change in plans to what was previously reported
STW will exit “Early Access” which will entail less content updates. Less than the already sparse amount of updates the STW community already gets
Anyone who paid for STW will receive an upgrade to the next level. Ultimate Edition owners will get 8,000 VBucks and the new Metal Team Leader Pack which can also be utilized in the BR game
Over the next few months, cosmetics available in the BR item shop will no longer be supported in STW. The existing library will continue to be cross-compatible
New seasonal restructuring means that “Ventures” will be an annual seasonal rotation
OK - Now that you’re all caught up, let’s talk about what it means. If you play STW, prepare for your in-game experiences to feel recycled and unoriginal
Avid Save The World player DemonJoeFance had this to say on the matter:
The last thing I'd like to mention is Epic's huge reliance on recycling content for this game's future as a way of sustaining it

We as players want new and engaging content, in the end it seems we're just getting old stuff thrown back at us.
This is not the future we want (6) pic.twitter.com/MkVIlHtmrE
He went on to call out Epic for not wrapping up the storyline properly when they had claimed “the main story is complete.” For content that was begging to evolve through Twine and Biome, being told via blog that it would never come to fruition is tough
Finally, for all you Battle Royale players out there… You will no longer be able to use STW as a VBuck farm. With the one-time payment of 8,000 VBucks to the top STW account holders, they’re depreciating this functionality entirely in the near future
While this is a sad development for the original STW audience, we already saw this coming from a mile away. Hopefully Epic can make up for this by providing some killer BR updates in the near future
