The Fortnite superstar has clocked in a staggering amount of view time, leaving his competition in the dust.

StreamElements and Arsenal.gg have come together to publish and end of year report titled “State of the Stream 2019”. This review accumulates a wealth of statistics from multiple streaming platforms to give insight into the trends of the industry.

Unsurprisingly, the total hours watched for Fortnite this year was less than 2018, and consequently League of Legends has taken over the spot of most-watched game on Twitch. However, with 884,923,121 hours watched, Fortnite still came in a close second, so people who claim that the game is dying may want to rethink. Also, those particular stats were just for Twitch, let’s not forget that the likes of Tyler “Ninja” Blevins and Jack “Courage” Dunlop have moved away from the platform.

When it came to individual creators, Turner “Tfue” Tenney shut down the show. With 87,789,883 hours of total watch time, he was the most viewed streamer of 2019 by a landslide. Even streaming royalty Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek and Jaryd “Summit1g” Lazar couldn’t come close.

It’s important to note that this category included data from all streaming platforms, making Tfue the most watched streamer in the world. Ninja made it to fourth on the list, however, I’m sure he won’t be disappointed. After his meteoric rise to global fame in 2018, Ninja has been focusing on more than just streaming this year. From his appearance on The Masked Singer to his recent collaboration with Adidas, he has been continuously making waves.

Tfue’s success is especially impressive when you consider that he is still a dedicated and top tier pro player. His streams more often than not feature tournament or scrim gameplay, rather than being purely entertainment based. This perhaps demonstrates a rise in the popularity of competitive Fortnite and an eagerness to learn and improve.

Twitch has been the dominant streaming platform for a while now, but with competitors like Mixer and YouTube Gaming making massive moves and investing serious money towards the tail end of the year, 2020 will certainly be interesting. The industry as a whole is continuing to grow and I for one am excited to see how the landscape looks this time next year.
