Less and less Fortnite videos are appearing on the star’s YouTube channel, and now we know why.
Tyler “I AM WILDCAT” Wine has never been particularly interested in the competitive side of Fortnite, but has been playing the game for a very long time producing a wealth of hilarious content. However, now he has revealed why he is starting to veer off towards other titles.
Fortnite hasn’t been fun since the “box fighting” meta became a thing. Basically since Season 8.

Just a realization I came to today on stream after asking myself why I still play the game. No rewards, no memes, no fun box fighting.
In a recent tweet, Wildcat explained “Fortnite hasn’t been fun since the “box fighting” meta became a thing”. As someone who preferred to play the game on a casual basis, it is clear to see that like so many others, the increased average skill of players has put him off. Recently he has been spending a lot of time on Call of Duty Modern Warfare instead.
Fellow creator and ex FaZe Clan member Avery “Avxry” Lopriore replied to Wildcat’s post, saying that he hadn’t minded Chapter 2 until the most recent update. Avxry claims that “they reverted SBMM to what it was in season 10”. Without patch notes we don’t know if this is true, but multiple players have backed up this up, feeling that their Solo games are harder again. He now labels the game as “horrid and a snooze fest”.
It wasn’t bad until the harpoon update. They reverted SBMM to what it was in season 10. It’s legit horrid and a snooze fest

Perhaps the most damning statement of all was Wildcat’s response to Avxry. He told him “It hasn’t been the same since Season 8 for me. Game is officially dead in my eyes”. This is such a shame to see. After so much optimism that Chapter 2 would revitalize Fortnite, it is hard to watch people who used to be such big fans turn their back on the game. Seemingly skill-based matchmaking is a big negative for casual players who still have a good number of wins and content creators especially. It is understandably more challenging to put together a fun video idea when you have to worry about every fight being insanely sweaty.
It hasn’t been the same since Season 8 for me. Game is officially dead in my eyes. I’ll check out new updates here and there but I’m over it.

For many newer and less skilled players however, skill-based matchmaking has been a godsend. They thank the change for making Fortnite playable and say it’s the most fun they’ve had on the game. Wildcat says that he will still check out new updates as they are released, so hopefully there is another twist in this tale that can bring back disenfranchised players like him.
