This weekend’s Fortnite Champion Series action was plagued by game breaking bugs and poor organisation. Nevertheless, the Finals have now concluded so let’s check out the top performers from each region.

EU

In Europe we saw a landslide victory from a somewhat lesser known Squad. If you pay attention to the EU competitive scene you will have heard of these guys but if you haven’t, this performance should definitely put them on your radar. Jimmy “Ritz” Christensen, Theo “Crue” Ferrer, Moussa “Chapix” Faour and Luminosity Gaming’s “Beehive” finished with 132 points, despite picking up only one Victory Royale.

After struggling to find the perfect squad for a couple of weeks, Kyle “Mongraal” Jackson seems to have finally done it. The new EU God Squad features Benjy “Benjyfishy” Fish, Jaden “Wolfiez” Ashman and Nathan “Nayte” Berquignol. Having only had a few days to practice together, and also having Benjyfishy disconnect in the last game, the team were happy with their third place finish. Mongraal has predicted that they will come out on top for the last two weeks of FNCS.

NA-East

Unlike in EU, the top of the NAE leaderboard is filled with famous names. The Fortnite competitive community were thrilled to see that the Liquid boys managed to get themselves back in the number one spot. Ryan “Chap” Chaplo, Tom “72hrs” Mulligan, Noah “Vivid” Wright and their talented fourth Chris “CizLucky” Perez played a solid set of games, utilising early rotations and tactical mid-game eliminations to score consistent points. It was great to see the boys getting hyped again, and Chap couldn’t resist a little joke, posting a screenshot of their placement captioned “boomers>zoomers”.

FaZe Clan young guns Noam “Megga” Ackenine and Daniel “Dubs” Walsh took third, alongside Ghost Gaming pro Timothy “Bizzle” Miller and Jared “Eclipsae” Elwood. This means that the squad are now double qualified for the next stage of the FNCS, despite Bizzle tweeting that he “wasn’t even trying”.

Whilst hosting an NA-East watch party, BenjyFishy was stunned by this high IQ trap play by fifth place Daniel “Innocents” Rebelo.

NA-West

The Finals were a much closer affair on the west coast. Brendan “Falconer” Falconer, Reza “Symetrical” Manie, Sean “Sean” Close and 100 Thieves star “Arkhram” stole first place with 93 points. The second place team were NAW dynamos Brodie “Rehx” Franks, Shane “EpikWhale” Cotton, Liquid “Cented” and NRG “Edgey”.

Much to their disappointment, Rehx’s squad finished just one point behind, on 92. The reason this stung so much was that their fifth game didn’t count to their total score. They racked up 18 points in that game so they would have had an easy first place finish had it counted. This is just another example of the technical glitches which have ruined this weekend’s competition.
