The BRUTE is the most controversial vehicles Epic has ever added to Fortnite. In competitive solo matches, the BRUTE outright promotes teaming.

Pretty much everyone hates the BRUTE at this point. There seems to be a small minority of casual players who like it, while the rest of us absolutely despise the thing.

It would be one thing if the mech was isolated to core Fortnite modes, but it's in Arena and tournament playlists as well.

When you're near a BRUTE in late-game competitive or tournament Solo matches, there's no choice but to jump in the gunner's seat with an opponent - otherwise known as teaming.

Teaming in a BRUTE

When a mech hops in your box and asks to duo from r/FortniteCompetitive

The above clip is just one of a handful of clips from the r/FortniteCompetitive subreddit that show teaming in a mech.

This one happens to involve the World Cup Solo winner, Bugha.

Do you know what the problem is with this clip? Nothing. He did nothing wrong. He made the best decision for himself at that moment.

What was Bugha supposed to do? Self-destruct the mech and have to run away while everyone in the lobby focused him? No. He did exactly what he should have done: go for kills while his opponent jumped around.

This is a "don't hate the player; hate the game," situation. The problem is with the mech - not with the players using it.

The only possible solutions

Why has nothing been done by Epic about teaming in the Mech? End game in today's cup from r/FortniteCompetitive

Remove the mech.

That would be the best solution, but it's obviously not going to happen.

Back when the Quad Crashers were in the game, players would get kicked out of their matches if they stayed in the same vehicle as an opponent.

The same is supposed to apply to the BRUTE, but I've never seen someone get kicked for teaming in one. I'll give Epic the benefit of the doubt and assume that the mechanic applies to the BRUTE as well, but it needs to be adjusted.

Staying on the same Quad Crasher as your opponent didn't really do anything. You could ride with them, but that's about it.

In the BRUTE, the two players can get several kills together in a late-game competitive match, just as you see in the above clips.

The kick-out time limit should be significantly lower with the BRUTE for this reason.

An even simpler solution, though, is to self-destruct the BRUTE as soon as an enemy enters - maybe give them five seconds to react.

Either way, it's about time this BRUTE experiment ended. Let's hope Epic doesn't do something worse with Season 11.
