Did you assume Fortnite looked the same in all countries? Well, you'd be wrong. Apparently, Storm Damage is completely different in China.

Storm Damage is universal, right?

Well, apparently not. According to a recent post to the r/FortniteBR subreddit, storm damage is a completely different mechanic in China.

Instead of ticking away at your HP, storm damage activates a completely different health pool. It ticks down as you stand in the storm, then regenerates when you leave.

In Fortnite China you dont get Storm Damage from r/FortNiteBR

My first thought was that this health bar would work a bit like oxygen when you're underwater in other games. When the bar depletes, you start to lose health.

That's not the case, though. When this pool runs dry, you drop dead on the spot.

There are positives and negatives to this mechanic. It doesn't punish players who are low-HP and stuck in the storm, for instance.

It appears as though you can't health through this storm damage, however.

Although the idea is an interesting one, I like what we have here in the West. You can heal through the storm, and entering the storm to rotate is more of a calculated risk in competitive late-games.

You may take a tick or two of damage to get high-ground, for example. If this Chinese mechanic was universal, there would be no reason not to sit in the storm for a few seconds to challenge an opponent who has high-ground.

It's unclear why this mechanic is isolated to China and begs the question: what else is different over there? Is this something Epic is considering across the board?
