There were several highlights in the v10.20 patch, but a few short lines of text are getting the most attention. Epic nerfed Turbo building, making it much harder to complete building strategies that used to be routine.

Epic Games just nerfed a core mechanic in Fortnite: Turbo Building.

One small line of text in the patch notes is going to have major implications for the state of Fortnite, and the community isn't happy about it.

Epic changed the time between subsequent Turbo Build placements from 0.05 seconds to 0.15.

This change makes everything more difficult. Anyone who has been practicing their building now has to start from scratch, as their muscle memory doesn't apply anymore.

Although they listed Ping as the reason they made this change, Epic probably wanted to lower the skill gap. Unfortunately, it seems like they've done the opposite.

Increasing the skill gap

In the patch notes, the Fortnite team claimed that the change to Turbo Building was to "level the playing field regarding ping when it comes to turtling." What they did was drastically increase the skill gap and anger a large percentage of the player base.

As you can see from Myth's clip, it's now much more viable to click every time you place a wall or ramp rather than hold down your trigger or mouse button.

I'm sure that Epic wanted to lower the skill gap with this change, but they ultimately raised it. It's now more difficult to complete 90's than it ever was in the past.

Most of the players who could regularly 90 now have to practice again, but they'll adapt - provided that the change stays in the game. Anyone who was on the fence about 90's won't be able to do them at all, now.

I don't expect this change to last very long. Epic will probably see the outcry following their patch and change it before too long. If not, this could be the last straw for some already agitated Fortnite players.
