Epic has been messing with the Fortnite Shotgun meta for a while, and the upcoming Epic and Legendary Tac Shotgun variants aim to switch things up even more.

Epic has been trying to change the shotgun meta for a long time. They made some major steps at the beginning of Season 9 when they vaulted the Pump and introduced the Combat Shotgun.

As we all found out, the Combat Shotgun ended up being arguably more powerful than the Pump Shotgun, leading to just as many - if not more - kills with the former weapon.

Epic responded by adding the Pump back to the game and introducing the Drum Shotgun - which is arguably worse than the Tac. The Drum Shotgun can melt people from close-range, but you have to be in their face to get the job done.

The Drum Shotgun also benefits greatly from the current shield-damage animation. You can blind someone when you're shooting them with a Drum Shotgun, but once this bug is removed it will be even less valuable.

Right now, we have two primary options as Fortnite players: The Combat Shotgun and the Pump. Some players prefer the Pump in certain situations - a Blue Pump can one-shot after all - but the Combat Shotgun is still king in the current meta.

The Rise of the Tac

Everyone hates the Tac Shotgun, for now.

The new Epic and Legendary variants of the Tac Shotgun are likely coming in a patch later this week. Rumors have it that a headshot from one of these weapons will deal nearly 200 damage at close-range.

The fast fire rate of the Tac Shotgun - while not as quick as the Combat - makes these new variants very interesting. We may finally have a true rival to the Combat Shotgun.

The Combat Shotgun will be better at range than the Tac will, but the Tac will outperform the Combat in close-quarters situations. Finally, players will be able to make a real decision on which shotgun is best for their playstyle. We'll have three viable options: the Pump, the Combat, and two variants of the Tac.

Of course, we'll have to wait and see just how powerful these new Tactical Shotguns are going to be. It will be exciting to see them in action.
