Today we sit down with Binn a Korean Fortnite streamer in our first spotlight interview.
Jbeck: Binn, tell us a bit about yourself.
Binn: Hi, I am Binn (a.k.a Twitch_BINN), 25 years old, streaming Fortnite on Twitch. I was born and raised in South Korea. I had spent a couple of years in Hawaii for college. I love music and video games.
Jbeck: When did you start playing video games? Which games drew you in initially?
Binn: I remember playing Ponpoko when I was about 7th grade. It was just a simple game with the goal of collecting all the fruits and vegetables in each level. I used to play such arcade games back then.
Jbeck: How were you introduced to Fortnite?
Binn: I am following a lot of video game pages on Facebook such as Gamology to figure out trending games all over the world. I watched some funny Fortnite videos and clips. Then I wanted to go for it. Why not?
Jbeck: How often do you play?
Binn: Well, I play Fortnite 10-12 hrs everyday. I know it sounds crazy. But it's dope. No doubt about it.
Jbeck: Describe a bit of the Fornite Scene in Asia?
Binn: It's still not that popular compared to other countries, but I am pretty sure it's growing up dramatically with help from all the communities, streamers, and Epic Games Korea.
Jbeck: In South Korea there a lot of LAN centers, have you been to one to play Fortnite or other games?
Binn: Of course. That's where I spent my whole childhood. It's been a long time that going to lan centers had become a culture in South Korea.
Jbeck: Do you normally play in Asian servers or dabble in others? If so, which and why?
Binn: I usually play in Asia servers. I only play in NA when playing with my friends. It's so much fun playing with NA players regardless of a high ping.
Jbeck: In your profile on Fortnite Tracker it seems you play a lot of Squads? How come?
Binn: I don't see myself as a competitive player. I do want to enjoy the game itself. There's so many more things that I can do for fun in Squad than Solo such as rocket riding or building a sky bridge. It's always fun to play with other players.
Jbeck: Is there any deterrent from playing Solo/Duos? Is this something, as you grow as a stream and player, you are looking to improve?
Binn: It's just because I got used to play squad ever since I started to play Fortnite. I am trying to play solo more in Season 3.
Jbeck: What is your favorite place to drop? Everyone seems to have a preference.
Binn: Tilted Towers or no go. Decent looting and more people to kill. Also I enjoy strong tension between floors inside high buildings.
Jbeck: What is your weapon of choice ?
Binn: Double pump used to be my favorite. but since v.3.0.0, I would say RPG. (R.I.P Double pump)
Jbeck: Onto your streaming career. When did you start streaming?
Binn: It’s been 3 months. I started streaming in December last year.
Jbeck: Who are the main influences to you as a player? As a streamer?
Binn: Either way, Myth is my idol. I love how he plays with his amazing building skills.
Jbeck: Recently Ninja played with Drake and other celebrities. What are your thoughts on how that will affect the scene in general? Where do you see yourself in this massive growth in Fortnite?
Binn: It will have a great impact on Fortnite in drawing not only more gamers but also music lovers’ attention. I’ll keep growing up as Fortnite does.
Jbeck: As you are apart of the FTR Champions Discord Server, what are your thoughts with Fornite as an E-sport?
Binn: Honestly, I don't think it would possibly be an E-sport when considering it's a battle royale game. It usually needs a lot of luck rather than player's skill itself.
Jbeck: Are there any changes in drops/map/etc you would like to see implemented for this to become competitive?
Binn: I think the left side of the whole world is still much more competitive than right side due to new places especially Tilted Towers even though they added Lucky landing in the middle. I don't know if they adjusted the drops properly, but I wish they added a new map on right side or replaced Fatal fields or Anarchy Acres since it's just same.
Jbeck: Which mode do you think would stand out? Solo? Duos? Squads?
Binn: Definitely, Solo would stand out since everyone is enemy in the game.
Again we would like to thank Binn for his time. You may follow his stream at www.twitch.tv/Binn
