Fortnite v8.01 is now live. Here are the additions and changes Epic made to the game.
Fortnite patch v8.01 comes less than a week after the new season came out. It includes some item and gameplay changes, including the addition of the Treasure Map.
Gameplay Additions/Changes
The new item that made its way into Fortnite through the 8.01 patch is the Treasure Map. There will now be buried treasure scattered around the map that players can find during the game.
First, you have to find one of these maps. It takes up an inventory slot as you search for the treasure. Pressing your "aim" button will reveal a path for you to follow, bringing you to a gold beacon that marks where the treasure is buried.
The chest contains several legendary items along with building materials, so they're certainly worth finding. It appears as though there's one treasure map in a given area, so a couple of teams might be heading for the same chest.
Epic also reduced the availability of Infantry Rifles and Clingers. They vaulted Bottle Rockets as well.
The degree at which you can avoid fall damage while sliding has been adjusted. You can now slide at a 75-degree angle without damaging yourself. This was previously 65 degrees.
Events/Modes
The new LTM is called Slide Duos. You will have ice blocks on your feet and unlimited grapplers. There is no fall damage, increased run speed, and lower friction.
Epic is also testing the Gauntlet Solo & Duo Tournament format. There is no match limit, but every match you play will lower your score by 2 points in the form of a "Bus Fare." The scoring works like this:
- Victory Royale: +3 Points (+10 Total)
- 2nd - 5th: +2 Points (+7 Total)
- 6th - 10th: +2 Points (+5 Total)
- 11th - 25th: +3 Points (+3 Total)
- Each Elimination: +1 Point
The top 5% of players will make it to the Gauntlet Finals. The match limit will be ten games with the same scoring format.
