The next weapon added to Fortnite will be the Suppressed Sniper Rifle. We can expect this new weapon as soon as tomorrow.
The Fortnite news feed is now warning us of the newest weapon that is coming to Fortnite: a Suppressed Sniper. The accompanying description says: “Strike at your opponents quietly with this suppressed bolt-action Sniper!"
This addition has been a long time coming in my opinion. Epic has been adding weapons to Fortnite since the game first launched, and many of them were completely out of left field. Seriously, who predicted a Boom Box that would blast music and destroy buildings with each pulse?
A suppressed sniper seems like a much more intuitive addition to the game. Every other weapon class apart from the shotguns has had a suppressed version at some point.
While the weapon makes sense, I'm going to view the addition with cautious optimism. This could be a weapon that has benefits and disadvantages, or it could be a bolt-action sniper with a suppressor - automatically making it overpowered.
The sniper needs to have some trade-off, similar to the increased spread of the suppressed assault rifle. I'm hoping that the bullet drop or travel time will be increased. If not, you'll be able to pop sniper shots without anyone knowing where they're coming from.
We first heard about the suppressed sniper rifle through Lucas7yoshi on Twitter, who found it in the game files a few days ago.

1 bullet per mag
Reload Time: 2.7
Reload Time: 2.85
(headshot multiplier might be 2.5x, however i can't say for certain, so take it with a grain of salt) pic.twitter.com/fmJAXzpqSH
As you can see, the suppressed version of the sniper does slightly less damage than the regular version with a decreased reload time. Again, hopefully, the bullet drop or travel time of the sniper is a bit more punishing as well.
The sniper will probably come into the game with tomorrow's patch, and we'll have to wait and see how it works once we get our hands on it. Stay tuned for a breakdown when the item drops, as well as a detailed overview of the rest of the changes that may come. I expect this patch to include a lot of bug fixes and adjustments since it's the first update of 2019.
