Streaming superstar Ninja couldn’t help but laugh when one of his viewers called Fortnite a “kid’s game”.

Bright colors, cartoony graphics, and silly dances. Some gamers argue that Fortnite is made for children, but Tyler “Ninja” Blevins disagrees.

A clip has surfaced from last season, when he went on a hilarious rant about the topic. “This isn’t a kid’s game dude” Ninja started, adding “Grown men play this game, lots of ‘em”!

The star went on to compare Fortnite to Minecraft, which has a similar cartoony vibe but is enjoyed by players of all ages.

He told fans, “This wasn’t a kid’s game 3 years ago, this wasn’t a kid’s game when Dr DisRespect was playing it, and Tim (TimTheTatman) was playing it, and Nickmercs was playing it”. The point being that many people only started mocking Fortnite when they personally lost interest in playing.

Finally, Ninja fired back at those who act like they are somehow cooler for playing other more “grown-up” games like Call of Duty. “I play Warzone! I play a man’s game!” he joked, finishing “We are playing video games, it doesn’t matter, you’re just f***ing gaming”.

Ninja gives his views on Fortnite

It’s true that Epic does certain things to appeal to a younger audience, for example using the word elimination rather than kill. But they also do plenty of marketing toward older players too - many of the bigger collaborations are aimed at adults.

If anything, the art style has got way less childish since Chapter 1. However, the developer was recently forced to pay a $275 million fine for violating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

So is Fortnite a kid’s game? At the end of the day, Ninja’s right, it simply doesn’t matter. Everyone is free to play whatever they want, the whole idea is to have fun.
