Latest Fortnite update: New Guardian Shield item & FREE cosmetic Midseason Drops

The latest Fortnite update adds the protective Guardian Shield and introduces Chapter 4 Midseason Drops.

With Epic Games staff returning from their winter break, we can expect Fortnite content to start ramping up again. Following a somewhat dull Christmas period in-game, the first hotfix of 2023 is now live.

Winterfest 2022 is over, meaning you can no longer unwrap presents in the lodge. Snowball Launchers will also be back in the vault, along with Presents and Sgt. Winter.

New Fortnite Guardian Shield

First teased in the Chapter 4 Season 1 trailer, the Guardian Shield is finally here! They can be found in Oathbound Chests around the Island.

The Guardian Shield forms a protective barrier, blocking enemy gunfire. It can be used while moving or thrown down to provide cover in one spot. The color of the Shield indicates how much more damage it can take before breaking.

Right now, it looks like Guardian Shields will be available in Battle Royale, Zero Build, and Competitive game modes.

Chapter 4 Season 1 Midseason Drops

Midseason Drops are a new concept giving you more ways to earn cosmetic rewards. Throughout the season, players will be able to unlock special alt Styles for Chapter 4 Season 1 Battle Pass skins.

The first one is already live. Simply gain 10 Account Levels to secure a fresh Style for Selene.

Over the next four weeks, you’ll have the chance to get alt Styles for Massai, Doom Slayer, Dusty, and Nezumi.
