The Infinity Blade has been the source of a lot of discussion since it was released in patch 7.01. Epic Responds with a Nerf to the item.

It seems like every time a new weapon is added to Fortnite people complain about it being overpowered or underpowered. The Infinity Blade was no exception, except this time the community had a legitimate gripe.

The fact that the blade made it to all Fortnite modes instead of an LTM like Thanos before it sparked a ton of negative feedback, especially when players saw the Winter Skirmish NA Grand Finals. Almost everyone who placed in the top five got a turn on the sword, even though it was added to the game only hours before the final qualifiers began.

Epic remained largely quiet about the community feedback except for a short post on Reddit, outlining a small fix to the weapon in competitive formats.

It wasn't until earlier today that Epic directly addressed the community feedback on the new Infinity Blade, providing some context for it on a post on Reddit.

"The presence of Mythic items in gameplay is to provide an interaction a step above the Legendary item functionality and something you’ll continue to see. To us, that means changing the way the game is played for those who interact with that item. The addition of items in this tier provide new and flavorful ways to interact with the map and generally shake up normal play across default modes," the post said.

The post went on to state that the developers plan on removing the ability to farm and build with the blade in patch 7.10. "When designing the Infinity Blade the goal was to provide a weapon with inherent risk to balance out the great capability it provides - the ability to harvest/build removes a great deal of that risk," JustMooney1 wrote.

The sentiment of the post made one thing clear, though. The Infinity Blade is here to stay. If we read into the other statements of the post, it looks like it won't be the last game-changing item we see added to the game, either.
