UPDATE: Epic is now aware of the problem and is working on a solution. A post from the @FortniteStatus Twitter account confirms, “We’ve temporarily disabled Sand Tunnelling on the Island while we investigate an issue. We will let everyone know when this feature returns.”

Fortnite players have found an insane new glitch which allows them to disappear without a trace.

In a title as complex as Fortnite, with regular content updates and an ever-evolving gameplay environment, technical mishaps and bugs are inevitable. We’ve seen this take many forms over the years, for example, earlier in Chapter 2, it was possible to completely prevent yourself from taking fall damage.

Having recently been temporarily disabled for separate reasons, it seems that there is another problem with Season 5’s new sand tunnelling mechanic. The feature lets players quickly and discretely travel around the centre of the map by sinking into the sand surrounding the Zero Point.

Fortnite YouTuber “Jedi2x” generally posts a selection of informative tips and tricks videos, but switched it up on Tuesday to share what he described as “The most broken exploit ever”.

By correctly timing a Harpoon Gun shot whilst sinking, players are able to vanish beneath the sand without creating a mound. This makes it impossible for enemies to locate them and shoot them out of the ground, meaning the only way to take damage is from the storm.

Furthermore, the exploit allows players to build and edit, as well as drop and pickup weapons whilst still under the sand.

Whilst this is a bug on Fortnite’s end and not necessarily a bannable offence, it is still not recommended that you try it out. Clearly the issue is unintentional and we can expect the developers to deploy a fix very soon.
