Fortnite’s competitive team has left some pretty interesting bread crumbs on their social channels. Will Nickmercs and Aydan take the stage in the next creator cup?

Earlier this year, Epic Games leaned into community suggestions through unparalleled collaborations with independent creators. Community tournaments -- with Epic Games sponsored prize pools -- have become a common event type in the “compete” tab

The most recent competitive event was the Nick Eh 30 cup, coinciding with Nick Eh 30’s personal skin bundle drop. Players were able to compete alongside the legendary content creator with a shot at $10,000 in prizes

The events, while competitive in nature, are all in all good fun for both the spectators and creators involved

After Epic Games criss-crossed between regions over the past month - from Europe to Oceania, the expectation is a refocusing on the North American competitive scene

Today, Aydan teased the Fortnite community with a request that Epic Games features him and his throwback teammate and adversary Nickmercs in an elimination heavy tournament

Nickmercs and Aydan have an incredibly fueled past, stemming all the way back to the Summer Skirmish. The major storyline at all of these events were undoubtedly the clash between these two fragging controller players at Tilted Towers

Eventually, the two foes would link up in the duos iteration and defend their land all the way into big bonus territory. I still consider this match up to be the most legendary in all of Fortnite’s colorful history

Both of these players actually got their start from competing in the North America West region, until eventually making their way out East for other purposes

Coincidentally, NA-West is the only major region that still hasn’t experienced a region-locked event featuring their very own homegrown creator(s). Could an Aydan x Nickmercs collab be a true throwback as they host an event from where they first started?

Sure, it sounds like a long shot… but Fortnite’s competitive team just added a glimmer of hope to this notion on Twitter

By simply tweeting the “thinking” emoji, Fortnite’s social media manager created a frenzy within the competitive community. Offering credence to the notion of a throwback event all but confirms in my mind that this event will happen. It’s just a matter of “when” and not “if”

In a time where the real “OG” content creators are all looking to return to a more vibrant Fortnite than when they left for greener pasture, Epic Games can actually reel in some hype with a few solid patches and fulfilling the request of the community

We’ll see if this event can see the light of day. In the meantime, follow us on Twitter for all the competitive updates!
