Edit: The FNCS Chapter 2 Season 4 Official Rules have now been published, confirming that the competition will indeed be platform specific.

For the last year, Fortnite’s premium tier competition has been the Fortnite Champion Series. Since it begun in Season X, we have worked our way through each and every game mode and are now back to Trios for Chapter 2 – Season 4.

To begin with, Fortnite tournaments were cross-platform and it was almost impossible for non-PC players to place. However, this all changed with the Winter Royale 2019, which featured separate lobbies for console and mobile with an even split of the prize pool.

Since then, this has become the norm, with regular Platform Cash Cups and the previous two seasons of FNCS also being platform specific. The big question is, will the upcoming Trios series be the same?

It certainly seems so. The FNCS warmup event is taking place this weekend (starting Friday, September 25), and the competitive calendar on the official Fortnite website shows two different versions, one for PC, and one for PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and mobile.

Of course, nothing is 100% confirmed until the full tournament details are revealed by Epic Games, but if the warmup is platform specific, it’s almost certain that the main event will be too.

With console Cash Cups and FNCS seeing such an insane level of participation so far, it is likely that they will continue for the foreseeable future. By stopping them, the developers would risk a huge chunk of the playerbase losing interest in Fortnite which could have significant impact on revenue.
