After some time away from the North American Fortnite scene, Cloud9 are diving back in with multiple high-profile signings.

Perhaps most famous for their presence in League of Legends and Counter-Strike, Cloud9 have a somewhat checkered past in Fortnite. They were of the first major orgs to get involved early on, but never found a lot of success.

Former Halo pro Jacob “Hysteria” Reiser was the team’s first pick-up back in May 2018. He performed well in the Summer and Fall Skirmish events, however Hysteria didn’t have many more impressive placements and was eventually let go towards the beginning of 2019.

Whilst they have been absent in NA for over a year, Cloud9 does have two active Brazilian players on their roster. Igor “drakoNz” Fernandes and Patrick “BlackoutZ” Garcia da Silva both made it to Grand Finals for FNCS Trios, Squads and Duos, and drakoNz also featured in the World Cup Solo Finals.

Now though, it’s time to turn our attention back to North America. C9 have recently announced two new Fortnite additions, and teased that even more are on the way.

Amidst a flurry of CS:GO signings in which Cloud9 caught the attention of esports fans worldwide by releasing full contract and salary details, Avery and Nosh were revealed as the first members of the NA squad.

Having had no notable placements in Chapter 1, Avery left the pro community no choice but to respect him after playing a key part in his team’s FNCS Squads victory. His momentum carried into Season 2 with a strong showing in Duos, and he’s clearly still on form, taking 1st in the return of Ninja Battles on Monday.

Nosh is still yet to have a real breakthrough performance, but his name is consistently towards the top of the leaderboards. He has been practicing Trios with Cody “Clix” Conrod and Brian "Zyfa" Wielgolaski, and they certainly look capable of making a run in FNCS this season.

At the end of Nosh’s announcement video, a line of text read “Stay tuned for more”. With both ex-Vanish pro Fryst and NA-West controller god Reet expected to disclose their new orgs very soon, it is probable that at least one of them will join Cloud 9.

If the recent leaks pertaining to a potential Fortnite World Cup 2021 hold true, it is likely that we will see an increase in competitive Fortnite investment across the board.
